A Quick tip for my four loyal readers…don’t ignore emails from your web host. Instead of being “upgrade spam” or “new feature alerts,” there is an outside chance that it will be a friendly email informing you that your domain name is up for renewal in a month and failure to take action will result in the interruption of service. Needless to say, crisis has been diverted and the ramblings will continue. New post coming tonight.

That … is a very good lesson.
It is also the premise behind my opening every piece of junk mail that I know, based on all the obvious visual cues, is going to try to sell me on mortgage insurance or some such when I open it. The one time I don’t open it, I’m going to end up bankrupt, with a house in foreclosure, no job, and four library books overdue.
The direct mailers have won! Alas. Woe.
